Vivien Leigh Cockrell passed away on May 29, 2026, in St. George, Utah. She was born on June 14, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, to Allen Leigh Lake and Karen Ione Lake.
Vivien had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. Whether family, friend, neighbor, or stranger, she greeted people with genuine interest and kindness. She remembered birthdays, celebrated accomplishments, and had a way of making each person feel loved and valued.
Vivien graduated from Baldwin Park High School in Southern California and married Thomas Alfred Cockrell on September 24, 1956. Together they were blessed with two children, Thomas A. Cockrell, Jr. and Janet Leigh Morgan. Their nearly 70-year marriage stood as a beautiful testament to enduring love and devotion, and they were looking forward to celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary this September.
Vivien was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings throughout the years, Ward Organist, Young Women President, and as a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Alongside her husband, Tom, she also faithfully served for five years as a manager of the Reno Bishop’s Storehouse, where they worked together to assist and bless the lives of countless individuals and families. Her faith was a guiding influence throughout her life.
She enjoyed working in her yard and spending time outdoors, but most of all, she cherished time spent with her family. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by those she loved.
Vivien is survived by her husband and eternal sweetheart, Thomas “Tom” Cockrell; her son, Thomas A. Cockrell Jr. (Malinda); her daughter, Janet Morgan (Dick); her sister, Janet Hunt; 8 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Allen Leigh Lake and Karen Ione Lake.
Vivien will be remembered for her loving heart, steadfast faith, and remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. Though she has left this earthly life, the love, kindness, and example she shared will continue to bless her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her. The countless memories she created will remain in our hearts forever.
