Obituary

Wayne Cunningham was called to his heavenly home on October 18, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born to Luther and Audrey Cunningham in Littlefield, Texas in 1954. He was the carrot-topped baby brother to siblings Mike Cunningham and Debby Cunningham.

Wayne grew up in Texas and attended high school in New Mexico. He joined the Air Force in 1973 where he served as a jet engine mechanic in Lubbock, Texas until he was honorably discharged in 1979. During that time, with the upcoming birth of his daughter Andrea, he accepted the gift of salvation and dedicated his life to Christ. Five years later his son Zachary was born. Wayne loved being a father, but sadly his marriage ended in 1989 and he moved to San Antonio, Texas.

In 1994 while leading a bible study, I met Wayne, and we were inseparable since. We were married in May 1995 and have been blessed to enjoy 28+ years of marriage. Wayne's career in IT as a Systems Administrator served his family well. Wayne always loved the mountains and dry desert air, so together we decided to make a bold move from Texas to St. George, Utah in January 2018 upon his retirement.

Wayne was a kind and gentle soul who always seemed in good spirits, even throughout his illness. He loved classic rock, especially The Moody Blues, The Beatles, and Pink Floyd. He loved all things Costco and is humorously remembered for his affection for the Kirkland brand of anything. He loved to grill and is famous (with his family, anyway) for his amazing fajitas and smoked brisket. He believed that green chilis and jalapenos were the key ingredients for all things grilled.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Andrea; son, Zachary; and three precious grandchildren: Ayla, Ian, and Christian. His special canines, Bijou and Jasmine, will miss him. Wayne was grateful to spend his last days visiting his brother Mike and wife Jackie, and sister Debby with whom he was able to say goodbye.

Knowing his final resting place brings peace to his family that even during our grief, we have been able to share memories of Wayne that have brought joy and laughter. We believe that death is not the end, rather the beginning of eternal life. We will hold a celebration of Wayne's life for family and friends on October 21, 2023 at the home of dear friends.

We want to thank Dr. Zachary Reese and his staff for the compassion and care provided to Wayne over the past 11 months. A special thank you to Ivo in Imaging for personal care provided during many procedures bringing comfort to us in difficult times.

To my best friend, my soulmate, my husband, and brother in Christ, I love and miss you more than words can express, and long for the day we will be together again. Until then, rest in peace and know that your life here touched so many, and that your light will continue to shine brightly for all that had the pleasure of knowing you.
