Obituary

St. George, Utah - William D. Jones (Dee or Bill Jones) passed away August 19, 2012 in the Platinum Care Center, St. George, UT. He was born in St. George on September 21, 1919 to William H. Jones and Edna Canfield. He had nine brothers and sisters.

Dee helped his father in his carpentry work and with farm chores. He recalled going to Mt. Trumbull to chop timber for building. They moved to American Fork where he graduated from American Fork HS with a scholarship to Brigham Young in pole vaulting. However, he was drafted and spent some time working at Lockheed prior to his Army service.

He was in combat under Gen. Patton for over two years in France and Germany. He was awarded a Purple Heart and spent a year hospitalized. After the War, Dee settled in Montrose, CA where he owned and operated the Venetian Blind and Shade Shop. He was active in the Community and was a Past President and area officer of the Southern CA Lion's Club. He was a little league and semi-pro baseball coach. Active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in various positions in La Crescenta. He was generous and served wherever he was needed.

Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia. They met during the War while she was working at Lockheed and were married May 1, 1944. He also leaves a son, Claude (Marilyn); a daughter, Susan; 6 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 24, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Snow Canyon LDS 4th Ward, 1184 N. Dixie Downs Rd, St. George, UT. A visitation will be held Friday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery. We cannot thank the Hospice and Care Center workers, neighbors, and Leon Brown enough for their kindness during these past years.
