IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Orval
Ostler
May 5, 1947 – May 28, 2023
St George, Utah –William "Bill" Ostler, a devoted family man, lifelong learner, and a dedicated servant of God passed away on May 28, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness. Born on May 5, 1947, in Berkeley, California to Orval and Cleoma Ostler. Bill led a life marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, his community, and his faith. Bill's final moments were spent surrounded by his loving family, a testament to his strong character and caring heart.
Bill's spiritual journey began when he was baptized in the San Lorenzo Ward of the Oakland Stake in 1955. He embraced his faith and served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in France and Belgium from 1966 to 1969. During his mission, he immersed himself in the culture and became fluent in French.
Growing up, Bill excelled academically and athletically. He attended Castro Valley High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1965. Known for his endurance and dedication, Bill ran cross country and showcased his skills on the basketball court. In 1962, he achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, reflecting his strong work ethic and commitment to personal growth.
Following his mission, Bill married his eternal companion, Trudy Jensen, in a sacred ceremony on February 6, 1970, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Their union was a source of strength, love, and support throughout their remarkable journey together. Bill's passion for knowledge led him to Brigham Young University (BYU), where he earned a B.S. degree in Physics in 1971. Determined to expand his horizons, he pursued further education and obtained a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from BYU in 1973. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career. He started his career in Michigan with Ford and later was a financial executive for many Silicon Valley companies.
In 2008, Bill and Trudy embarked on a new adventure as they served as mission leaders in Fiji, Vanuatu, and New Caledonia. Their selflessness, compassion, and unwavering dedication touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on those they encountered.
Bill was a loving father to his four sons: Matthew (Kristine), Ryan (Nikki), Daniel (Sherida), and Drew (Blaire). His role as a father was defined by his unconditional love, unfaltering support, and the invaluable lessons he imparted to them. He took great joy in watching them grow, guiding them along life's journey, and witnessing the incredible individuals they have become.
Bill's legacy extended to his thirteen grandchildren and great-grandchild: Alexandra, Taylor, Aaron, Andrew, Zachary, Ethan, Jacob, Justin, Joshua, Elyssa, Preston, William, Elizabeth, and Olivia. Bill showed boundless love and pride for each of the grandkids and cherished the moments they spent together. Bill created countless memories with the grandkids competing in pickleball, hiking around St. George, and playing card games.
Bill is survived by his brother, Mark; and sisters: Nancy and Ruth Ann. Bill has joined his sister, Alyce; and parents, Orval, and Cleoma.
Bill's witty jokes, compassionate heart, and energetic demeanor will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire and guide those he left behind. As we bid farewell to our beloved Bill, let us remember the beautiful life he lived and honor his memory by embodying the values he held dear. May his soul find eternal peace, the values he imparted carry on, and our memories of him be cherished forever.
