Obituary

St. George, Utah – William "Bill" Bennett Warren, 86, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer's, while residing at the Southern Utah Veteran's Home.
Bill was the first born of four children to William Bennett Warren and Ruth Anne Geryk on June 23, 1932 in Port Lavaca, Texas.
Bill's family had a traveling road show, where they would travel around entertaining people and he was the original "Arizona Kid." They later moved to Sonoma, California, where he graduated from Sonoma High School, where he played football and baseball.
Bill met and married Judy Thomas, they later divorced and he moved to Parowan, Utah, where he caught the eye of Miss Ellarene Bettridge at Fenton's Drugstore, where she worked. He would go in and buy gum just so he could see her. They were married on September 15, 1967 in Parowan, Utah and were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple.
Bill loved to fly; it was in his blood. He served in The United States Air Force, where he dreamed of becoming a pilot. With a diagnoses of a lazy eye, that dream would not come true. He was sent to the Korean War, where he fought on the front line. After the Air Force, he did get his pilot's license to fly privately and he owned a Piper Tri Pacer and flew many places. He even used to court his sweetheart by asking her to go flying with him for one of their first dates. He would often take the grandchildren up to the airport to watch the planes come and go. It was one of his favorite pastimes. He also loved golfing and gold dredging, where he often packed up the family and headed for the hills to pan for gold. More precious memories were made than any gold found.
Bill served as the local Lions Club President, where he loved to go down to talk and tell his many stories with all the boys. He always would have a joke or funny story to go along with whatever was being discussed at the time. His go to line was always "That reminds me of a story." With his quick wit, infectious smile and killer laugh, every story was amazing to hear. Generosity had no limit with Bill, he would often give money to anyone in need. He had a heart like no other and never asked for anything in return. He would give money to his grandchildren randomly and tell them to buy something.
He worked at the Nevada Test site as a security guard in his earlier years. Later he would go on to work in the Propane Gas Industry, where he managed Retail Propane Centers in Van Nuys, California and in Tonopah, Nevada. He eventually started a scratch plant for Coast Gas in St. George, where he worked and managed until he retired. He came back out of retirement to work at Warren Energy, so many customers loved his service with a smile and a joke or two.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ellarene of St. George; his children: William Jr., Matthew (Rita) Warren, Wendy (Clint) Leavitt, Lisa (Clair) Larsen, Brent (Amy) Warren, Michael (Colleen) Warren; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren, with two one the way. He is also survived by his siblings: Robert W. Warren, Wayne G. Warren and Margaret Anne Warren Coughlan. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth Anne; father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Lillie Bettridge; and son, Morgan David Warren.
We would like to thank the Veteran's Home for the outstanding care and love they gave Bill. We are forever grateful for your kindness and dignity you gave him in his last days.
