St. George, UT - Jodie Thomas passed away, in St. George, Utah, on May 21, 2013 after a long illness. Jodie was born as the only child of Marjorie Schultz Jones and Arthur W. Jones on June 1, 1931 in Sacramento, CA. Marjorie later remarried and Jodie was adopted by Dr. Harold Edmund Baird. Jodie was raised by her grandparents, whom she adored. Ethel and Edward Schultz had a ranch in the San Mateo, CA area where she spent a happy childhood. She graduated from Mary Mount Prep School and attended Sacramento Junior College. Jodie met Donald E. Thomas, while at college, and they were married May 5, 1951 in Sacramento, California. In October 1960, Jodie joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions. She immediately loved genealogy and worked on her family history until her health declined. Jodie loved to learn and read and she was passionate about her writing. In January of 1965, the Thomas family moved to Soldotna, Alaska which was an adventure from beginning to end. In 1993, Don and Jodie moved to St. George, Utah. Jodie and Don have four children: Christine (Glenn) Sherwood, Elaine (Ray) Gagnon, Donald (Cynthia Zollinger) Thomas, and Wendi (Robert) Hill, They have 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren with one more on the way. Jodie was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Green Valley LDS 3rd Ward Chapel, 1282 West 500 South Circle, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow at Tonaquint Cemetery.
