St. George, UT- Yoshio Shiba, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on October 3, 2010 from pulmonary fibrosis. He was born May 11, 1923 in Paul, Idaho to Ushizo and Kiku Shiba. He married Chieko Miya January 29, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1981 after 30 years of service as a supervisor, fighter jets mechanics. He then worked at World Wide Packaging in Clearfield, Utah as a maintenance supervisor. Yosh was a master craftsman, builder and mechanic. He enjoyed building and remodeling homes, gardening and working on cars. He is survived by his daughter, DeeAnn Bassett (Jim); sisters: Ume Miya (Min), Tome Ujiiye; brother, Kay Shiba (Yasuko); grandchildren: Jason Shiba, Ashley Shiba, Alisa Shiba, Nicholas Bassett, Colton Bassett; great grandchildren: Brody Shiba, Kathelyn Henderson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Chieko Shiba; son, Steven Shiba; brother, Heiju Shiba; sisters: Kiyo Shiba, Tatsu Shoji, Kikuyo Shiba, and Shigeko Kubota. A small family service will be held October 5, 2010 at 11 am at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd. St. George, UT. "A Celebration of Life" will be held at a later date.
